Support your students and your practice in preparing for the new New York Inspires climate education mandate through engaging, developmentally appropriate teaching that brings sustainability and climate science into the elementary classroom.
Designed for K-4 educators (with discounted pricing available for Environmental Education CoSer districts), this interactive session explores how climate education can be embedded into existing curriculum across subject areas, not as an add-on, but as a natural extension of powerful teaching and learning.
Participants will build foundational knowledge of climate change causes, impacts, and solutions while exploring standards-aligned, ready-to-use resources connected to New York State Education Department learning standards. Through collaboration, interdisciplinary thinking, and individual application, educators will identify entry points for weaving climate education into current units of study in literacy, science, social studies, and beyond.
Grounded in inquiry, place-based learning, and real-world relevance, this session also highlights community partnerships and outdoor learning opportunities beyond classroom walls. Participants will engage in dialogue that supports shifts in instructional practice, drawing on colleague expertise while adapting ideas for their own classroom contexts.
Leave with practical strategies, inspiring resources, and a vision for empowering young learners as curious scientists, thoughtful problem-solvers, and future-ready stewards of the world around them. Climate education in elementary classrooms is not only about meeting a mandate, it's about helping children imagine and shape a more sustainable future.
Special discounted pricing is available for Environmental Education CoSer subscribers. This includes educators from Wallkill, Kingston, Saugerties, Ellenville, and New Paltz.
